According to Turkish media, Arsenal are on the brink of accepting a £3.5million bid from Besiktas this summer for the highly-rated winger Joel Campbell, whom the club believe could go on to shoulder their striking responsibilities.

The Costa Rica international caught the attention of footballing world with his sublime displays in the World Cup, but has not managed to impress Arsene Wenger. He subsequently had numerous loan spells with clubs from France, Greece and Spain.

Despite his obvious talent, he still finds Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain above him in the pecking order and it is highly unlikely that the Arsenal manager would offer him the playing minutes that he rightfully deserves in the upcoming season.

Besiktas manager Senol Gunes has made it apparent that the 23-year-old is his transfer priority given the fact that he needs a source for regular goals thanks to the departure of Demba Ba. The Turkish manager also believes that a bid of £3.5million is more than enough to lure him to Istanbul as he has no significant role to play in the English capital.

If Joel Campbell does follow in the footsteps of Lukas Podolski out of the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal supporters can expect a striker signing as the then squad depth issue will need addressing. However, with the limited options available this transfer window, a signing of the prominence of Alexis Sanchez would only be a dream.
