Going by what the English media report, transfer activity at the Emirates Stadium seems to involve only goalkeepers as Marco Amelia is now rumoured to become the second goalkeeper signing of the season.
Following the arrival of Petr Cech from arch-nemeses Chelsea earlier this summer, future of David Ospina and Wojciech Szczesny was touted to be in jeopardy as the former Rennes stopper would be the undisputed number one. Sending the Polish international out on loan now makes immense sense as he is still billed to take over from his Czech Republic counterpart at once he calls it a day.
In order to make up for the numbers, Arsenal are now billed to have tied down Marco Amelia to a deal that would make him the third choice keeper at Arsenal. However, his arrival could also mean that David Ospina could be on his way out as well even though it is highly unlikely.
The former Italy international, while quizzed by Gianluca di Marzio, claimed that he had reached a confidentiality agreement with the club that prevented him from speaking about the contacts.
"During negotiations, I signed the confidentiality agreement with Arsenal and so, I cannot say anything at the moment. I'm relatively young for a goalkeeper as I’m only 33 years old. I don’t know what future holds for me.”
If David Ospina does move elsewhere in search of playing time, signing Marco Amelia could prove to be beneficial as he will likely demand much less than the potentially outgoing keepers. Furthermore, his experience at the international level could be influential in honing our academy graduates.
