Southampton have had their bid to take Calum Chambers back on loan turned down by Arsene Wenger as the French manager seems to have plans for the versatile player next season, according to Mirror.

The English international arrived at the Emirates Stadium only last season for £16million but has still not justified the hefty transfer fee failing to register his presence during the second part of the campaign.

The 20-year-old, akin to compatriot Carl Jenkinson, has attracted interests from a host of mid-table Premier League clubs, who look to strike a loan deal with the London club, but the manager has reportedly warned off every pursuer as he looks to maintain the squad depth.

Despite dropping down the pecking order, he can be tipped in to play frequently as he could be deployed anywhere in the defense, not to mention the central midfield.

Although he has been receiving sticks lately, he can be expected to become a first team regular for the London club in the seasons to come given his undoubted prowess.

Going by the image portrayed by the English media, Arsenal are all but done with their transfer activity this summer while a striker signing is also very much probable.
