Arsenal strikers failed to fire again as the Gunners managed to see off Newcastle United with an unintended help from Fabricio Coloccini and their manager, Arsene Wenger subtly slammed his striker for not scoring despite dominating the final third.

Talking to the press after the whistle at Saint James’ Park, the French manager admitted that his side had to improve, having failed to fire offensively against a ten-man mid-table club. He also announced that he would not mind adding to his roster in the event of finding an exceptional player.

"We have not fired offensively, our finishing has not been clinical and we have to improve on that. We are open and we are in the transfer market. If we find an exceptional player in any sector, we will do it.”

The longest serving Premier League manager, however; denied being clear-cut as he claimed that he was oblivious as to whether he would sign a striker this summer, but reiterated that his club are working on bringing a prolific goal-scorer down.

“At the moment I don’t know if something will happen or not. We’re working on it, I’m not any more or less optimistic than I was last week. You always want more goal-scorers, but it’s unpredictable.”

Arsenal are rumoured to launch a last-ditch bid for Paris Saint-Germain wantaway Edinson Cavani after failing to complete a transfer for Karim Benzema earlier this summer.
