Arsenal are believed to be keeping tabs on £23.4million rated Mauro Icardi, with a view of luring him to the Emirates Stadium from Inter this winter, according to Spanish media outlet Fichajes.
The Gunners were rumoured to have come close to signing world-class strikers in Karim Benzema and Edinson Cavani all summer, but their manager, Arsene Wenger recently revealed that he had failed to bring in reinforcements only due to the lack of availability of convincing quality in the transfer market.
The report, however, claims that the London outfit have identified their ideal striker in the Argentine and even goes on to state that they may even trigger the release clause, if the Italian side had attached any, despite the striker penning a new deal at San Siro only this summer.
The 22-year-old has been the linchpin of the Nerazzurri since his move from Sampdoria three seasons ago, but he does not seem to be achieving glories with them as Inter still are wrestling to regain their lost prime.
Meanwhile, the Community Shield winners also seem to be devoid of the final piece of the puzzle – a top-class striker.
A move for Mauro Icardi could turn out to be symbiotic for either party, but Arsenal may have to table an offer that Inter should find too difficult to turn down.
When Manchester United could shell out £58.8million for an unproven prospect, Arsene Wenger shall not mind breaking the bank for this established goal-machine.
