Arsenal got off to a stuttering start thanks to howlers from new signing Petr Cech against the Hammers, but have since retaliated, with the veteran keeper himself upping the quality of his game drastically.

The 33-year-old lauded his teammates for the fighting spirit that they showed to make sure they made amends for the opening day debacle, claiming seven points out of the possible nine, albeit not in a beautiful fashion.

“I think if you spill the milk or coffee in your kitchen you don’t just let it lay there, you wipe it off and clean it,” he told Arsenal Player. “It is the same thing when you do something wrong, you just take the first opportunity to make this right and correct it.

“This is the only way. When you know the world well, you are prepared and if a bad game happens it is probably part of football and you need to understand that,”

The former Chelsea shot-stopper admitted that he was partly to be blamed for the mishap against the local rivals, despite being upbeat going into his home debut, having had a spectacular pre-season. He added that he was impressed with the reaction of the team as one would have expected them to give in after a home defeat to a mid-table club.

“I had a great pre-season, I was feeling well going into the game, excited to play my first home game. Then obviously the game did not go according to plan for everybody, particularly me.

“But we recovered from there and it was good to see the reaction of the team because it was a big blow as we had wanted to start on a winning note."

Petr Cech has all the reasons to be delighted as his former nemesis Thibaut Courtois has apparently sustained an injury that would keep him off the pitch for eight weeks, besides he himself hitting form at this stage of the season.
