Ian Wright spent two seasons under Arsene Wenger before being involved in a cross-city move to Upton Park, but he achieved something fantastic in his last season at the Highbury becoming the then leading goalscorer in the history of the club.

The 64-year-old manager has managed to earn a lot of critics thanks to his unique managerial methods and the former Arsenal striker is one of the noteworthy faces in what fans call the WOB. The Englishman, who currently works as a pundit with BT Sport, recently launched an attack on the Gunners manager for delaying the process of conversion of Theo Walcott into a striker by five years.

The French manager; however, admitted his delight over his achievement stating that he was highly dedicated and motivated during his playing career and even went on to laud his hunger for goals. He believes that the former Crystal Palace marksman holds a very special spot in the build up of the brand of football that Arsenal play today as he claimed that he would remain one of the greatest players the club have ever seen.

“He chased that record,” told the Arsenal manager “Like every striker he said, ‘I don’t care about the goals’, but he only thought about that. I was very happy for him because he was a highly dedicated and motivated player. He was ready to die to score a goal.

“He is a special story in our game as well. He was a guy who came to the top level very late and to achieve what he achieved is absolutely fantastic. On the day you could see that he was extremely happy when he scored the goal, but we were all with him. He will remain one of the great players of Arsenal’s history.”
