Arsenal missed out on bringing down a senior outfield player all summer, but their manager, Arsene Wenger has now made tying down whom he already has at his disposal to long-term contracts his priority, with Mesut Ozil topping his check-list.

The German playmaker smashed club transfer record when he completed his £42.5million switch and the Mirror now claims that he looks set to break another record as the Gunners are believed to table a contract that would make him the best paid Arsenal player ever.

Having extended the London stay of Olivier Giroud, Santi Cazorla and Theo Walcott only recently, the Arsenal manager now wants the former Real Madrid ace to follow in their suit, despite his contract already running until 2018.

After a relatively mediocre debut season for the Emirates Stadium outfit, the 26-year-old now appears to be consistent, contrary to the popular misconception of football fans and is also expected to get only better, given his resilience and desire.

Fenerbahce, at least according to his agent in Erkut Sogut, are keeping tabs on Mesut Ozil, with a summer bid likely to go in.

Arsenal will want to fend off their interest early so that they could concentrate on prising more talents to north London and will well have done the same, if they succeed in tempting him into signing a new improved contract.
