Arsenal are ready to activate a £34 million clause in Alexandre Lacazette’s contract in order to persuade the Olympique Lyonnais forward to move to Emirates Stadium this summer, according to Jason Burt of the Telegraph. The report states that Arsene Wenger, who has been covering France’s European Championship games for beIN Sports, has already opened talks with Lacazette’s representatives.

The Gunners manager promised three signings even before the transfer window had opened. He has followed up his claims, signing holding midfielder Granit Xhaka and 21-year-old prospect Takuma Asano. He tried luring 2015/16 Premier League winner Jamie Vardy to Arsenal by activating his release clause, but the Leicester City forward turned down the offer.

However, his Lacazette pursuit could end in fruition as the French striker has often expressed his desire to ply his trade in the Premier League. West Ham United have been trying to convince him to sign for them, but he does not seem interested in an Olympic Stadium switch. However, the prospect of playing under compatriot Arsene Wenger and alongside international teammates such as Laurent Koscielny and Olivier Giroud — whom he will compete with for a place in the starting lineup — should be appealing if the promise of Champions League football is not.

The 25-year-old striker, who is known for his dribbling, passing, and his ability to get others involved, had a stuttering start to his 2015/16 Ligue 1 campaign with Lyon, scoring just twice in ten league games. However, he managed to bounce back, finishing the season with 23 goals and 4 assists in 43 competitive appearances, as his club Lyon finished runners-up in the French league.
