Arsenal attacker Theo Walcott has gone on to hail the ‘fantastic’ support from the fans during the clash against Tottenham Hotspur.
Arsenal played out a 1-1 draw against rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the North London derby on Sunday and the failure to claim a victory on the day meant that the Gunners missed out on a fine chance to head into the international break at the summit of the Premier League table.
Following the clash, there is understandably a sense of disappointment among the Arsenal fans – especially given the fact that the Gunners had managed to position themselves so well for a victory with a very good performance in the first half.
Fantastic fans
Now Arsenal star Theo Walcott has gone on to echo the disappointment of the fans for failing to earn the three points over Tottenham but has gone on to hail the club faithful at the Emirates Stadium for their ‘fantastic’ support throughout the game.
Speaking to Arsenal’s official website, Walcott said, “We always want to win these games. It’s very disappointing to not get the win with our home support.
“The fans were fantastic from kick-off until the end and were behind us all the way. We couldn’t get the result unfortunately. They all wanted the bragging rights.”
Silver Lining?
While Walcott made no secret of his frustrations, the 27-year-old was not entirely disheartened by the result though and reasoned that a point against Tottenham during such a tight Premier League race can be construed as a decent result in the grand scheme of things.
He continued, “These games hurt me more than any other game. When you look at how tight the Premier League is and the teams that are fighting for the Premier League, you probably think this is a good result.”
The draw sees Arsenal drop into 4th position in the Premier League table but as a positive, avoiding a loss against Tottenham means that the Gunners are currently on a fine run of 16 matches without defeat – their best streak since 2009.
