As quoted by the Daily Express, Arsenal legend Ian Wright has gone on to state that he has been left unimpressed by Alex Iwobi’s performance against Tottenham Hotspur during the weekend.
Arsenal played out a 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday and although the result was probably a fair one given the nature of the game, Gunners’ fans were certainly left a bit disappointed that their side were unable to claim all three points from the encounter.
In truth, many of the Arsenal players were not at their best during the clash and Alex Iwobi in particular was a cause for much frustration from the fans after he failed to make much of an impact throughout his 70 minutes on the pitch.
Now even club legend Ian Wright has gone on to speak regarding his disappointment of Iwobi’s display during the clash and has stated that the more experienced Aaron Ramsey should have started the game rather than the youngster.
Wright was quoted saying by the Express, “I thought Alex Iwobi might have been better as a substitute. Aaron Ramsey has a bit more experience. He [Iwobi] was a bit disappointing.
“I felt for him. He was nervous. A couple of his passes were knocked out of play. It might have been a better one for him to come off the bench and have an impact.”
Admittedly, Iwobi did not enjoy the best of games on the day but the harsh level of criticism that has come his way can be construed as a bit unwarranted.
The attacker has been fantastic so far this season for Arsenal and he perhaps needs support rather than harsh critics in order to flourish in a team full of superstars.
Nonetheless, Iwobi does look like a level headed young man and the difficult experience against Tottenham will surely make the 20-year-old a mentally stronger player.
