According to surprise reports from the Sun, Manchester United are planning to lure away Mesut Ozil from fierce rivals Arsenal.

It goes without saying that Mesut Ozil has been an integral player for Arsenal since joining the club from Real Madrid during the summer of 2013 for a club record fee of around £42.5 million and the club faithful most certainly want to see the German maestro continue his stay at the Emirates for as long as possible.

The club hierarchy also seem to feel the same and with Ozil entering the final year of his contract next season, the Gunners are desperately trying to tie down the attacking midfielder to an extension as soon as possible.

Ozil is believed to be keen on a stay at Arsenal but he has not yet put pen to paper on a new deal due to the fact that he is reportedly demanding a whopping weekly wage of around £250,000, while the club are prepared to make an increase of only £20,000 to his current £140,000-per-week deal.

The two sides are expected to eventually come to an agreement but the protracted negotiations has given rise to speculation regarding Ozil’s potential exit from the Emirates Stadium and in shock reports from the Sun, it has been claimed that rivals Manchester United could potentially look to snap up the German international from Arsenal.

United to poach Ozil from Arsenal?

United boss Jose Mourinho shares a good relationship with Ozil from their time together at Spanish club Real Madrid and the Portuguese manager has gushed about the attacker’s abilities on numerous occasions in the past.

If available, Mourinho would surely jump at the chance to sign Ozil and it is believed that the United boss is sensing an opportunity due to the club’s current contractual deadlock with Arsenal.

The reports can be taken with a pinch of salt but Arsenal did do the unthinkable by selling Robin van Persie to United when he entered the final year of his contract back in 2012 and hopefully Ozil will not take the Gunners hostage in a similar fashion if indeed the Red Devils do come calling.
