Former Arsenal star Ray Parlour has gone on to speak regarding the moment when the normally composed Arsene Wenger lost his temper with his players.

Arsene Wenger is arguably one of the most measured managers in the world and during his two decade long stay at Arsenal, the Frenchman has rarely shown emotions of anger, unlike some of the other over exuberant managers in the Premier League.

Wenger’s ability to control his emotions is certainly one of the 67-year-old’s biggest strengths and most of the players whom he has managed over the years clearly respect him for such a quality.

Ray Parlour played under around eight years and he is certainly more familiar with Wenger’s personality than most people. Parlour is a huge admirer of Wenger but he has gone on to recall a time when the French boss did in fact lose his temper.

Back in 2001, Arsenal suffered an embarrassing 6-1 defeat at the hands of Manchester United at Old Trafford and the Gunners had already found themselves 5-1 down at half time following goals from Dwight Yorke, Roy Keane and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Wenger was unsurprisingly not pleased with how Arsenal performed in the first 45 minutes at Old Trafford and Parlour has stated that his former manager ‘lost his rag’ during his half-time team talk with the players.

'Wenger lost his rag'

Parlour told Sky Sports (via Daily Star), "It went 5-1 and the half-time whistle went. We were pleased when the whistle went. That was very humiliating.

"I think it was the only time I saw Arsene Wenger lose his rag in a half-time team talk. Usually he's very calm but in that game situation he was a little bit angry at half-time. We went out second half and ended up losing the game 6-1, but that was a real shock for us."

Arsenal prepare for a clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday and if indeed there is a repeat of the events from 15 years ago, Wenger could potentially show his angry side once again.

However, Arsenal are favourites heading into the encounter this time around and such a result being replicated looks very unlikely against a United side which is clearly struggling at the moment.
