Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has heaped lavish praise upon former teammate Petr Cech.
Cech joined Chelsea from Rennes back in the summer of 2004 and it is fair to state that the goalkeeper was one of the most crucial figures in overseeing the Roman Abramovich revolution at Stamford Bridge.
The custodian made close to 500 appearances for Chelsea during his 11 year stay at the club and helped them claim a whopping 15 major trophies.
Despite his wonderful contribution to Chelsea’s success though, the emergence of the talented Thibaut Courtois meant that he lost his previously undisputed number one spot between the sticks at Stamford Bridge and ultimately decided to leave the Blues during the summer of 2015.
Upon the request of Cech, Chelsea reluctantly allowed the former Czech Republic international to join fierce rivals Arsenal at the start of last season and the 34-year-old has now established himself as bit of a cult hero at the Emirates Stadium as well.
Cech is arguably one of the nicest players in the Premier League and no fellow professional or indeed a rival fan has had anything bad to say about the goalkeeper.
Now former teammate Courtois has also gone on to speak regarding his respect for Cech and has hailed the Arsenal star as the ‘best person in football’.
Courtois was quoted saying by the Metro, “[I have] a lot of respect for him. He is the best person I have met in football on every level. From when I arrived at Chelsea, he helped and advised me.”
It is clear to see that there is no love lost between Chelsea and Arsenal and Courtois having nice things to say about Cech despite the rivalry between their respective clubs is certainly very refreshing.
