As quoted by the Metro, Paul Merson has launched an astonishing attack on Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger ahead of the Gunners’ clash against Manchester United.

Arsenal prepare to square off against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday and given the magnitude of the clash, there has understandably been a lot of hype leading up to the encounter.

Due to the contrasting fortunes of the two sides at the moment, many believe that Arsenal are favourites to claim victory from the encounter but to curb the optimism, the Gunners are facing a bit of an injury crisis and there has been a lot of talk surrounding Alexis Sanchez’s fitness.

Despite suffering a hamstring problem, Sanchez featured in Chile’s 3-1 World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay on Tuesday night and ahead of the clash, Wenger has understandably complained regarding the South Americans’ handling of the 27-year-old’s situation.

It now remains to be seen if Sanchez will be fit enough to start the game against Manchester United and Wenger most certainly has every right to feel aggrieved if his star player is ruled out.

Merson attacks Arsene once again

However, former Arsenal star Paul Merson does not seem to be too impressed with Wenger’s complaints regarding Sanchez and has now sensationally gone on to accuse the Frenchman of making up excuses even before the match as started.

Merson was quoted saying, “Wenger is moaning about Alexis Sanchez and Chile, I think he’s just starting to make excuses already. Really, Arsenal should win this game on form but with Jose Mourinho’s record against Arsenal, I think he has a hold over him.”

Merson certainly has been very vocal in his criticism of Arsenal in recent times and while they should not affect Arsenal’s preparations against United, fans will surely not be pleased with such a popular figure in North London making unnecessary comments regarding his former club.
