Arsenal are already preparing for Alexis Sanchez’s potential exit by eyeing up a swoop for Marco Reus, according to reports from the Daily Mirror.
It is customary for teams to commence talks over a new contract with their prized assets once they enter the final 18 months of their respective deals and Arsenal are currently doing just that by negotiating new terms will Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.
After long drawn talks, it does look like Arsenal will be able to agree on a contract extension for Ozil worth £200,000-per-week but worryingly, things are not quite clear cut in regards to Sanchez’s current situation.
It is believed that Sanchez also wants a £200,000-per-week contract and in addition, is currently demanding a buy-out clause to be included into any potential new deal with Arsenal.
Arsenal are said to be considering Sanchez’s current demands but that has not stopped the likes of Juventus and Manchester City being linked with a move for the Chilean superstar.
While Arsenal would ideally want to keep hold of Sanchez, the Daily Mirror have now gone on to claim that the Gunners are also preparing for the worst case scenario by looking at the possibility of signing Marco Reus if indeed their current star departs.
Rues to replace Sanchez?
Following a six month layoff, Reus recently returned back to full fitness for Borussia Dortmund and there is no doubting the fact that the German international remains a key figure for the Bundesliga giants.
Nonetheless, Reus has consistently been linked with a move away from the Signal Iduna Park and Arsenal are said to be looking to tempt the attacking midfielder to the Emirates Stadium by placing a bid of around £30 million this summer.
Reus is most certainly a quality player and would be a great addition for the Arsenal side. However, Arsenal fans would perhaps much rather want to keep hold of Sanchez than splash the cash for Reus as his replacement.
