Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson has expressed his frustration regarding the head-to-head rules implemented in the Champions League group stages.
Arsenal have performed very well in the Champions League so far this season but it does look like the Gunners will once again only qualify from their group in second place.
Despite being tied with Paris-Saint Germain on 11 points and boasting a stronger goal difference, Arsenal are currently in 2nd place in the table due to the fact that their head-to-head record against the French side is inferior.
Arsenal drew 1-1 against PSG at Paris in September but the Ligue 1 champions managed two goals in the draw at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night and as a result, the North London side currently find themselves trailing in the group.
While Arsenal can still finish top if PSG slip up against Ludogorets at home next month, chances of such an occurrence taking place are very slim to say the least.
Arsenal now face the prospect of squaring off against a stronger side in the Round of 16 of the Champions League due to their inevitable runners up finish in the group and now defender Carl Jenkinson has gone on to air his frustrations regarding the controversial head-to-head rules enforced by UEFA.
Jenkinson airs his frustrations at UEFA
Jenkinson was quoted saying by the Daily Mail, “You can look at it as a tough night. It is always going to be, playing against a top team. I think we played well, the head-to-head rule is very frustrating, I'm not a fan of that and I think it is a shame.
“We have held our own and are joint top at the end of the day, the only thing that is holding us back is the head-to-head rule, which is frustrating when you look at our superior goal difference and it counts for nothing.
“We are through to the last 16 anyway and the way the competition goes, you can get drawn against anyone, you never know who you are going to get drawn against.”
