Speaking to the Kicker, German international Serge Gnabry has stated that he made the correct decision by swapping Arsenal for Werder Bremen this summer.

Gnabry was touted to become the next big thing for Arsenal after making his debut for the Gunners as a teenager back in 2012 and it was clear to see that the German attacker had all the skills required in his repertoire to become a success at the Emirates Stadium.

Evidently though, Gnabry was not quite able to fulfill on his promise and the attacker made a move to Werder Bremen this summer for a fee believed to be in the region of around £5 million.

Injuries as well as a horror loan spell at West Bromwich Albion meant that Gnabry was unable to stake his claim for regular first team football at Arsenal and realizing this fact, the 21-year-old decided to leave North London.

Since departing from Arsenal though, Gnabry has found a new lease of life and having scored a brilliant 5 goals in just 11 appearances for Werder during the current campaign, the young attacker is now all of a sudden a regular for the German national team.

Given his meteoric rise over the last couple of months, it is clear to see that Gnabry’s decision to swap Arsenal for Werder Bremen has been justified and the youngster has gone on to admit that he has no regrets regarding his exit from the Emirates Stadium.

Gnabry happy to have swapped Arsenal for Werder Bremen

Gnabry told the Kicker, (via the Daily Mirror), "It was the right decision. Everybody who compares my development over the last four months to my time in England before that can't come to a different conclusion.

"That was the main reason for the transfer - I wanted to get more playing time and it worked. Arsenal wanted to keep me, badly, but I had to look after my development. If a player does not perform well, a club has no sympathy and they do not want to keep him."

While Arsenal certainly lost a very talented player in Gnabry this summer, it was clear to see that the young man would not have earned regular minutes on the pitch at North London this season and the transfer can be viewed as a beneficial one for everyone involved, even though the Gunners were forced to sell on the cheap.
