Speaking to Arsenal’s official website, Lucas Perez has hailed the qualities of fellow attackers Alexis Sanchez, Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott.
Arsenal were in desperate need to sign a new striker over the summer and while the Gunners were linked with a host of high profile names, they eventually went for a relatively obscure option in the form of Lucas Perez.
Despite not being well known to fans in England, Perez had managed to create waves in the Spanish La Liga with Deportivo La Coruna last season and many did feel that the 28-year-old could prove to be a very astute signing for the Gunners.
With a quarter of the season gone, it has to be said that Perez has not quite been able to prove his worth so far but this is due to the competition for places as well as injury problems, rather than his own shortcomings.
Perez has been struggling with an ankle injury over the past few months and as Alexis Sanchez, Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott have all shown great form this season, the Spaniard has had to bide his time in the sidelines patiently when fit.
Perez not frustrated at Arsenal
Nonetheless, the attacker is not showing signs of any frustration and has insisted that he is fighting for his place in the first team just like any one of his teammates.
He told Arsenal’s official website, “There is plenty of competition to get one spot in the lineup, which is great for the team. Not only the strikers are fighting for a place, but also defenders or midfielders. Our squad is hungry to play and you can see that in every training.”
Perez then went on to speak regarding the qualities of Sanchez, Giroud and Walcott and has revealed that all of the three aforementioned players have impressed him a lot.
Top teammates
He continued, “I already knew Alexis very well, I've seen him play a lot for his club and country. He is quick, skilful on the ball and a great guy. He is very kind and I have an excellent relationship with him. I hope we can go on like this.
“Giroud is a real extrovert and funny guy. He has been really nice with me from the very first day. He is a great striker. He protects the ball with his body superbly and offers many solutions to his team-mates.
“Theo is a very well known player. I was hugely impressed by him. He is quick, takes on players and he is scoring many goals because he is very clinical when it comes to finishing. He is having a great season and that´s great for us as a team.”
