Writing in his column for the Daily Mirror (via the Daily Mail), Robbie Fowler has explained that Arsenal will not be able to win the title this season if the contract negotiations with Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez drags on.

Having enjoyed such a fine start, Arsenal clearly have had a lot to be very happy about so far this season but a constant source of worry for the Gunners’ faithful has been the club’s inability to come to an agreement over the contract extensions for star duo Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.

Both Ozil and Sanchez’s contracts at the Emirates Stadium is set to expire in 2018 and with only 18 months remaining, Arsenal understandably want their two star players to put pen to paper on new deals as soon as possible.

However, Arsenal have been unable to reach an agreement with either player due to their high wage demands and as a result of the protracted negotiations, there has been widespread reports that the Gunners could well end up losing both their superstars.

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has not been left too impressed with Arsenal’s hesitance to hand Ozil and Sanchez the wages they are demanding and has warned the Gunners that the contractual negotiations could prove to be an unnecessary distraction which could negatively affect their title aspirations.

Fowler delivers a stern warning to Arsenal

Fowler wrote in his column for the Daily Mirror (via the Daily Mail), “Their two biggest stars have less than 18 months left on their deals and both will want to smash the wage structure at the Emirates. With Arsenal's current policies, both players will be leaving by the summer.

“Inevitably, over the past decade, that has meant stars will leave - and it has also created situations that have prevented Wenger's teams from challenging for the title. If contract negotiations drag out with them, they will not win the title again this season either.

“So, the board must decide what they want to be - a team which wins honours, or one which has an admirable, but, ultimately, limiting wages policy.”
