According to reports from the Daily Mirror, Arsenal are yet open discussions over a contract extension for left-back Kieran Gibbs.
Gibbs broke into the Arsenal first team back in the 2007/08 Premier League campaign as a teenager and at the time, many had touted the left-back to become a mainstay in the Gunners starting lineup due to his immense potential.
Almost a decade on from his debut for Arsenal, Gibbs has gone on to amass well over 200 appearances for the North London giants but there is a feeling that the Englishman has not quite been able to fulfill his promise so far.
Now 27, Gibbs currently still finds himself as the second choice left-back for the Gunners behind Spanish defender Nacho Monreal and although the 10 times capped England international remains an important squad member, he cannot be considered an indispensible player at the Emirates Stadium.
Perhaps as a testament to this fact, the Daily Mirror have revealed today that Arsenal have not yet started talks of a contract extension with Gibbs despite the ex-Wimbledon youngster entering the final 18 months of his current deal with the club.
Arsenal do seem to be preoccupied by negotiations with star men Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, and Gibbs is not the only one whose contract talks has been put on the backburner for the time being as the likes of Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain and Jack Wilshere are yet to discuss new deals as well.
That said, there is a possibility that Gibbs may well look to leave Arsenal next summer in search of regular first team football and it will be interesting to see if the Gunners are able to convince the defender to stay put where he is by offering improved terms.
