According to reports from the Daily Mirror, Arsenal are ready to offload unhappy defender Mathieu Debuchy during the current January transfer window.

Arsenal signed Mathieu Debuchy from Newcastle United during the summer of 2014 and at the time, the French international was seen as the ideal replacement for Bacary Sagna - who had moved on to join rivals Manchester City.

Debuchy did enjoy a strong start to life at the Emirates Stadium but a host of injury problems have meant that the full back has never really managed to earn a consistent run of games for the Gunners since his arrival.

During his absence with injury, young Hector Bellerin has established himself as the undisputed first choice right-back at Arsenal and it has been no surprise to see Debuchy being relegated to the role of backup behind the promising Spaniard.

Debuchy had slammed Wenger recently

After being frustrated with the lack of regular minutes coming his way, Debuchy went on to recently claim that his relationship with manager Arsene Wenger is almost non-existent at the moment and also added that the Arsenal boss prevented him from joining Manchester United last season.

Debuchy had said, “We acknowledge each other, we say hello, nothing more. situation doesn’t meet what I had been hoping for, but that’s football. There have been things, injuries and the coach’s choices, that have meant that I haven’t played. Even if I don’t understand, I’m not surprised, I know how it works.

“I wasn’t playing a lot, it was United, there’s nothing else to say. For me it was almost unexpected, but the coach said no. It’s something I did not appreciate. He wasn’t using me, so I didn’t see his interest in doing that.

“I had opportunities at the end of the transfer window. Unfortunately the club didn’t want to let me go. I had a good preseason, I gave my all, but from the first game I wasn’t in the squad. It was a real blow. I said to myself that things weren’t starting well.”

Frustrated Frenchman finally set to leave Arsenal

However, Wenger went on to refute claims that United were interested in signing Debuchy and also insisted that he does communicate with his French compatriot.

Wenger replied, “They have never made an offer for him. It’s completely untrue. It’s sometimes surprising to hear things like that. Yes, of course, but we speak. We have communication with all the players. It’s a little bit of a frustrated article from a player who is injured, you know when you are injured you cannot play.”

The public exchange between Wenger and Debuchy is a clear indication that the relationship between the two men has broken down beyond repair and now according to reports from the Daily Mirror, Arsenal are said to be actively looking to sell the 31-year-old.

With Carl Jenkinson being made available, it was believed that Wenger would be keeping hold of Debuchy but Arsenal are now ready to dispense with the services of the frustrated defender and the likes of Gabriel Paulista and Francis Coquelin are likely to act as backup to Bellerin in the right-back position.
