It really is the last week of the transfer window. A large number of rumours regarding Arsenal’s  transfer targets have popped up over the course of today, a few of them true, a few rather less so.

Hello Cabaye?

The Daily Mail claimed Arsenal had made enquiries to Newcastle regarding Cheick Tiote and Yohan Cabaye. This is a story with some substance to it, as Arsenal enquired regarding Cabaye and Ben Arfa six weeks ago. They were rebuffed at the time, but that was mainly regarding Ben Arfa.

A bid of around 15-20m could secure Cabaye, but it’s unclear whether Arsenal would want him, being a deep-lying playmaker similar to Arteta. It’s also worth pointing out that the enquiry was made before Cazorla was signed.

I hate to disappoint you

This morning I told you that Arsenal’s chief negotiator was in Germany at the moment, according to reports. Now, this immediately set a lot of readers of into a frenzy of speculation as to who Arsenal were interested in.

A name I saw a lot was Dortmund’s Mario Gotze. Arsenal were desperate to sign him last summer, and saw a deadline-day bid of 25 million turned down. He’s not signing this summer. He repeatedly spoke out about his desire to remain at Dortmund for the time being, and he’s rejected the advances of Manchester United and other big clubs in Europe. What’s more, he extended his contract at Dortmund recently, until 2017.

Nothing doing.

Chavs want Mbiwa

Chelsea had a scout at Montpelier’s game last night, to watch Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, who Arsenal are seriously attempting to sign. To be honest, it’s probably just usual scouting, a lot of teams do it. Chelsea have enormous depth in defence, and with FFP coming into play, as well as with squad restrictions, it’s hard to see any need to sign him. Don’t panic. Yet.
