As the rumour mill grinds into overdrive, you can barely move without a variety of “news” stories regarding Arsenal incomings and outgoings, and in the maelstrom it’s difficult to discern what to believe.
Bendtner’s Milan move off
Yesterday AC Milan brought in Arsenal target M’Baye Niang, and also signed Roma’s Bojan Krkic on a year’s loan. The arrival of two centre-forwards has more or less ruled out the chance of Nicklas Bendtner going there. Which is a shame, as he’s the best striker IN THE WORLD.
Juventus are supposedly interested, as is an unnamed team in Spain. If neither of them pick him up before Friday morning it’s likely he’ll be packed off on loan. Or stay. I mean, he does have previous PL experience and the last time he was used at CF he scored 15 goals and got 5 assists (matching Nasri’s tally for that season, incidentally).
Spurs (unsurprisingly) bid for M’Vila
Spurs bid around 12.5m for Yann M’Vila last week. Rennes responded offering face-to-face talks and Spurs apparently haven’t responded. AVB also did seem to give the impression that he wasn’t interested anymore.
He’s been linked with Arsenal repeatedly over the summer, and to be honest if he goes to Spurs and not Arsenal it’s because Arsenal didn’t want him. He would be a good signing but really isn’t the incredible defensive wall that the internet has built him up to be.
A lot of people are simply in love with the ‘name’ and not the player himself. Maybe he’ll sign for Spurs. Maybe he’ll stay at Rennes. Who really cares?
Walcott rejects contract?
According to reports, Theo Walcott has rejected a contract offer from Arsenal, though one report says more talks are planned. This has as ever produced an enormous storm of debate across the Twittersphere. People have pointed to the departures of Song and RVP already, this would be the third big name departure this summer. People point to his assist tally (bear in mind you can get an assist for the ball hitting your face and then someone else’s face, I should know), and what this means about Arsenal and their future and their ambition and WAAAAARGHHH CRISIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Calm down. Please. I watch football matches. I get annoyed at Theo Walcott. You get annoyed at Theo Walcott. Sometimes Theo Walcott pleases me. Sometimes he pleases you. He’s fairly inconsistent and has, to be honest, rather flattered to deceive since joining as England’s Best Hope Ever.
If he rejects a contract extension, it’s because he thinks he can get money elsewhere. It’s not like he’s being held back by Arsenal, which is a stupid argument. He’s the one who’s been in all the teams that haven’t done anything for seven years, just like RVP and Song.
If he’s turned greedy and now thinks he’s worth 100k a week and wants to have trophies delivered to him Adam Johnson style through sub appearances then goodbye to him, door hit you firmly on the behind on the way back.
Arsenal have better players than him already. Oxlade Chamberlain, Gervinho. Arsenal might bring someone else in. I’ve heard Theo Walcott get booed. He’s been ridiculed for wanting 100k a week. Now he may or may not be leaving, he’s worth it? No. It’s just people who need something to blame, besides the player. It’s not worth getting stressed over. Time moves on, Arsenal remain, now and forever (thanks to our stable finances).
Round-up
We’ve sold Henri Lansbury to Nottingham Forest. Yeah, fascinating, eh?
Also Marouane Chamakh could be heading to Malaga on loan now they’ve qualified for the CL, and Andrei Arshavin is now available for the bargain price of 1M.
Things will get more interesting today, I think.
