The rapid rise of Wenger's most recent gem has startled many in the footballing world and thousands in the Goonersphere.

When signed from Charlton in the summer of 2011 few would have thought the half-Finnish full back would be training with the full England squad ahead of a World Cup qualifier.

Charlton - Champions League

Having made just 8 appearances for Charlton Athletic, Carl found the transition from sporadic League 1 action to Premier League football challenging.

In pre-season he scored an incredible goal, lobbing the keeper from a full 40 yards. The only problem being it was Szczesny he lobbed.

On 16th August "Jenks" made his debut against Udinese in final qualifying round of the Champions League, coming on as a 2nd half substitute for the injured Djourou.

Jenkinson is a lifelong, loyal as they come, Gooner. Continuing the family heritage, Jenks' heart beats Arsenal blood. His personal message to his grand-father lies engraved on the tiles outside the Emirates, in and amongst fellow Gooners.

I find it thoroughly heart-warming that Jenkinson is winning over his critics this season.

In what must be a living dream, Jenkinson has done amazingly well against the likes of Sinclair, Sterling and Juan Mata this season.

A MOTM performance against City, has been reinforced with 8/10 showings against Stoke, Liverpool, West Ham and Montpellier.

A remarkable achievement from a player who looks so utterly out of place less than a year ago.

England come calling

Following Jenkinson's sterling displays this term, Roy Hodgson has called the 20 year old right back up into the senior England setup.

The news was broken by the Mirror's John Cross this morning, and then certified by Henry Winter of the Telegraph. Winter tweeted:

"Carl Jenkinson can expect his England debut in Stockholm Nov 14. Trained with squad today, not on flight to Warsaw but clearly in RH plans"
