As part of an attempt to tie down their new English core of young players, Arsenal are discussing new contracts with a number of players, including Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Kieran Gibbs and Theo Walcott, though the latter of course has hit a large snag.
These reports surfaced a while ago, but little seems to have occurred, leading to fears that another set of contract sagas would ensue.
However, some headway has now been made and there could be a storm of new contracts.
Ramsey
The much-maligned Welshman is still highly rated by Arsenal insiders, who believe he is simply lacking confidence.
Regardless of how you feel about Ramsey, he's a decent enough squad player, especially when not played out of position, and his deal is more likely a contract extension than a new deal, so a pay rise is unlikely; although there may be performance bonuses.
Captain Jack?
Jack Wilshere is naturally seen as the future of Arsenal, and will be receiving a large pay rise, along with a contract running until 2018. Some reports have suggested he will be made captain of Arsenal within 18 months, and is certainly the next in line for the role, long-term at least.
This will come as a relief, as some Gooners, after recent form, were worried he may have become unhappy at the club and begun seeking exits. Fortunately, that doesn't seem the case, especially at the moment.
Contracts for Gibbs and Oxlade-Chamberlain could follow shortly, meaning Arsenal will at least have one group of loyal players, even if times become very hard (hopefully not).
