Arsenal seemingly cooled their interest in Crystal Palace youngster Wilfried Zaha after Theo Walcott moved closer to a contract renewal.
According to today's Times United have held talks with Palace about signing Zaha, but are yet to agree a fee. Any deal United complete will likely involve him being loaned back until the end of the season to help with Palace's promotion push.
The fee United pay could be around 15 million, though the loan signings Palace are thought to want haven't been mentioned.
The Times are fairly reliable, so don't be surprised to see Zaha in a United shirt next season.
Coming up Shaw-t
Arsenal's pursuit of another youngster - Southampton left-back Luke Shaw has taken a hit today as well, with the news that he will sign a five-year contract with the Saints as soon as he turns eighteen.
Shaw is quoted as being extremely opposed to a move, saying:
"I have spoken with the chairman about a long-term plan for me at the club.
To put an end to all the speculation, I will be committing my future to Southampton. I'm not going anywhere.
I think Southampton is the place to be for young kids like me.
I'm playing in the Premier League for the first team and that is all anyone wants to be doing, so I just want to carry on.
I have been at Southampton since a very young age, so I've been here a long time now. I think they are happy with me here, and this club is great for young players like us."
So no Shaw this January, or for a few years.
Maybe he could be reminded that Arsenal is just as good a club for young players, but he seems dedicated to Southampton for the mean time.
Hooray! Two more years of Andre Santos!
