Apparently, Arsenal aren't planning a sordid party, they're looking for cover. After a day of silence only a few whispers have emerged. Two are left-backs, the other a goalkeeper.
Not exactly pulse-racing stuff, but I think Arsenal fans would take a dead cat on a stick at the moment.
Bong
Valenciennes are believed to have offered Arsenal their Cameroonian left-back Gaetan Bong after Kieran Gibbs was injured last night. Arsenal are pondering the offer, but nothing else appears to have come of this as yet.
The player is unremarkable, though he's likely better than Andre Santos (who is unfairly maligned in my humble opinion).
Monreal
This is the one that has legs. Radio Marca and AS, two major Spanish newspapers are reporting that Malaga's left-back Nacho Monreal is flying to Arsenal to negotiate personal terms after a fee was agreed for the player.
The Spaniard was tipped to become the new Spain international first choice in his position but the emergence of Jordi Alba put paid to that.
He is still an excellent player, and about as good a backup as you can get. The mooted fee is £10m.
Stekelenburg
Now seemingly on his way to Fulham, Arsenal have been offered the Dutch stopper by his agent who called Arsene Wenger personally. No longer first choice for the Netherlands but a decent keeper nonetheless, Stekelenburg would be a solid acquisition, but sadly appears to be headed to West London for a medical.
