Polish striker Robert Lewandowski has been in excellent form in the Bundesliga, for the last two seasons. His 30 goals last season helped Dortmund to the title, and while Borussia have failed to defend their title he looks set to better that with 28 goals already.

Wantaway

However, Lewandowski is known not to stick around for long. Dortmund are one of his longest-lived clubs, and he’s only been there three seasons. He’s refused to extend his contract beyond 2014, and he will be on his way in June if nothing is resolved.

Right now, there are a number of clubs interested, with Dortmund wanting around £20 million for him. There is no prospect of him leaving for free. Interested sides include Bayern Munich, Manchesters United and City, Chelsea, and...Arsenal.

Advanced talks?

Reports suggest that Arsenal could be close to striking an agreement with Dortmund for Lewandowski. A £20 million fee is again mooted, with the Pole upping sticks as long as Arsenal qualify for the Champions League next season (up to you how likely you think that is).

It’s very possible this could be the case, but other sides can and will pay more. It’s all down to who’s interested.

Good enough?

Lewandowski is almost perfect for Arsenal’s current set-up. Dortmund play an identical formation, with wingers cutting inside and the number 10 arriving late into the box. Lewandowski offers greater mobility, skill and clinical finishing  compared to Oliver Giroud, and would bring the likes of Podolski and Walcott into the game in a different way to the Frenchman.

There’s debate as to whether he or Stefan Jovetic would be a better fit, but both would improve our attack innumerably. I’d say, with fans crying out for a 30-goal-a-season man, Lewandowski would be a better bet, though Jovetic could end up as the better player.

No deal is done until it’s on Arsenal.com, so don’t print your Lewandowski 11 shirts just yet. But at least something’s going on in the marble halls of Arsenal.
