It’s been speculated a lot in the past, and now recently, one thing that is abundantly clear is that Paris Saint-Germain definitely want Arsene Wenger as their new manager.
It remains unclear as to whether they’ll get their wish.
Le Parisien are reporting that he’ll meet with the French moneybags next week to discuss managing them next season. They’ve tried a couple of times before, and it’s unclear if this is related to the report that suggested the same thing was happening a few weeks ago.
Wenger’s stated several times that he doesn’t break contracts and will stay until 2014 at the least. He’s actually encouraged PSG on several occasions, and advised them to spend as much of their Qatari money as possible, before FFP kicks in. It’s strange that he’d take this attitude with them while doing rather the opposite with Arsenal, but then again Arsenal don’t have infinite resources.
The Telegraph reported erroneously that the last year of his contract is optional, and he could choose to leave in the summer.
As I’ve said, this is untrue and if he did leave to join PSG he’d be breaking a contract and a promise. My personal feeling is that he’ll stay until next summer, and if things at Arsenal aren’t much better he’ll move on.
Cesar
Brazil ‘keeper Julio Cesar has confirmed he’ll be looking to leave QPR in the summer, after they were relegated at the weekend. This has apparently alerted Arsenal to his availability, and they’re prepared to sign him for £5m.
The report is slightly misleading, as it’s titled ‘Cesar set for Arsenal transfer’. There’s been no deal agreed, only interest.
Cesar is obviously far too good for QPR, and was linked in the summer as well, but other recent reports suggest that Arsenal are looking elsewhere for their goalkeepers. Towards Germany and a certain Rene Adler, to be precise.
