With Manchester United chasing Cesc Fabregas, Arsenal have a little bit of a problem. The champions want to sign him this summer as a replacement for the outgoing Paul Scholes, but Barcelona are unwilling to sell him.
However, if they were eventually convinced to let him go, Arsenal would be given first option to buy him, for £30m. The question is if Arsene Wenger wants Fabregas back enough to pay that kind of money to keep United from getting him.
Resounding
We ran a poll recently, to see if Arsenal fans wanted Fabregas back or not. The answer was a massive YES, with 84.8% of voters saying they’d welcome the Spaniard back to the Emirates, with 11.6% saying no, and 3.6% not being sure.
So, it’s clear Arsenal fans have no issue with Fabregas returning, but they don’t choose who to sign. Arsene Wenger has made no secret of his belief Fabregas will return some day, but he didn’t factor in the possibility of interest from other clubs.
Snake
It gets worse. Robin Van Persie is apparently confident he can talk Fabregas into joining him at Old Trafford, clearly with the intention of creating an ex-Arsenal hate-nucleus at the club.
I wouldn’t discount the possibility, Van Persie had a lot of influence at Arsenal while he was there, with both Song and Walcott’s attempts to leave founded on his departure.
Career prospects
Fabregas himself is faced with a choice-wait another year without necessarily playing regularly, before Xavi retires and taking his place, or moving to Manchester United and being a major player, though hated by the only fans that still love him. It’s all down to the strength of his character, really.
That and how proactive Arsene Wenger is prepared to be.
