Reports suggested that Ashley Williams had agreed personal terms ahead of a summer move to be completed in the next two weeks.
Swansea City have quickly dispelled speculation linking one of their players to Arsenal.
However, Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins told ThisisSouthWales.com that Arsenal had made no contact with them over the possibility of signing their captain.
Replacement
It was suggested that Arsenal wished to replace Thomas Vermaelen with Williams, but Arsenal could do with another defender anyway, which puts that idea to bed rather quickly.
Arsenal do hold some interest in Williams, having made a bid for him in January, and have sounded out the possibility of adding him to their ranks in the summer. However, he’s been linked with a move to Liverpool rather often as well, with the possibility of a reunion with Brendan Rodgers on the cards.
Talk of Arsenal moving for Williams is somewhat premature, it seems. Swansea didn’t rule out the possibility of Arsenal contacting them about him, but they made it clear that hasn’t happened just yet.
Of course, another question to be asked, is that at £10m (the mooted fee), would Williams really be worth it?
