Alisher Usmanov has again spoken out about Arsenal’s transfer policy, encouraging them to work on a deal for Wayne Rooney.
However, his attempts to win over Arsenal fans may be hindered by the fact he’s chosen to throw his weight behind a controversial potential signing.
On the England international forward, Usmanov said:
"He is a great player, there would be great success for Rooney if he joined Arsenal, and for Arsenal too.
He also backed Arsene Wenger, and said he feels the club will be successful in the near future, rather more positive comments than the shareholder has made before:
"We as shareholders point to some drawbacks in the management of the club, but Wenger is a great coach and the club is progressing in the commercial sense. We should trust him."
"It is high time for the club to win the highest trophies in the European Champions League, but I believe in the club's future."
Questionable
Usmanov often attracts criticism from fans for making unwelcome comments, and he will receive a mixed reception after backing a move for Rooney.
Some fans feel it would be an expensive waste of money for a player in decline, though there are also a number of fans very keen on the move.
If Usmanov had backed the popular choice of Fellaini, for example, he would have received a far better response.
However, it’s good to see him offering constructive advice rather than his usual “SPEND MORE MONEY”comments.
Usmanov wants Rooney at the club, but do you?
