The appointment of Carlo Ancelotti as the new Real Madrid manager should speed up the proposed transfer of Gonzalo Higuain to Arsenal, with the Argentine striker expected to join within the next few days.
The 25-year-old was always expected to leave the Bernabeu this summer but the main hitch in any deal was that no manager was in place to sanction the transfer.
No more issues?
Now that this has been resolved, he should join the Gunners for a reported £22 million fee.
Only last week we revealed that the Real Madrid forward had agreed personal terms and that once Ancelotti was appointed, then the deal could finally go through.
Juventus’ wandering interest
The other stumbling block was the interest of Juventus but it appears they will now turn their attention to another Argentine forward, Carlos Tevez.
The Man City star has constantly been linked with AC Milan but the Rossoneri vice-president Adriano Galliani has ruled out his arrival at the San Siro opening the door for him to link up with La Vecchia Signora.
Tevez the key?
He said:
“Tevez is not a transfer target for us.
“Before we will try to bring in new players, we will have to sell some of our own players first.
“It’s not a financial problem, but has to do with the amount of attackers we already have.
“Our big transfer coup came in January when we signed Mario Balotelli from City. We will see if anything else happens.”
Transfer to be finalised soon
Galliani’s statement coincides with the news that Juventus officials are flying to England to speak with Man City officials about Tevez.
Everything is pointing towards Higuian being announced as an Arsenal player very soon and it would be a huge coup by Arsene Wenger if he can bring the striker to the Emirates.
He scored 19 goals last season and that was whilst rotating with Karim Benzema as the main striker.
It is assumed that he would be the main man at the Emirates and his goals could propel the Gunners from the peripheral of a title challenge to serious title contenders.
