As Arsenal Latest revealed to you yesterday, a Gonzalo Higuaín deal draws ever closer.

Spanish TV cameras in Madrid’s Barajas airport spotted the Argentinian striker on Thursday ending his Miami holiday.

Some reports suggest that he is flying to London to complete a deal with Arsenal.

Contract Situation

The striker is expected to finalise personal terms and complete a medical before he is unveiled to the press at a later date. The general consensus seems to be, dependent on what website you read, that he will sign a 3-year deal, at around £100k per week, with a fee to Real Madrid of around £20-22m.

This is a compromise from Madrid, who reportedly originally wanted £25m.

Arsenal Benefit

Arsenal will feel they have grabbed a bargain here. Higuaín is still only 25, and with his status as one of the best finishers in the world with the likes of Santi Cazorla already at the club to provide him with goalscoring opportunities, this transfer seems to make a lot of sense.

This is an excellent transfer, and exactly the type of player we need. Gonzalo is strong, quick, can pass, cut in from the flanks, finish well and most importantly; is consistent.

Perhaps Giroud hasn’t shown us all he can do but I am seriously not convinced the Frenchman is the right type of player to put us back where we deserve to be. We need a finisher, someone to get results out of our sometimes beautiful, passing, attacking football.

In terms of price, Gonzalo seems a very reasonable buy for someone of his caliber, experience and age.

And I can’t be the only one drooling at the prospect of choosing a front line from the likes of Higuaín, Walcott, Cazorla and Podolski.
