Arsenal player ratings

Despite fielding a reasonably strong team this evening, Arsene Wenger’s team were outclassed by a second string Chelsea team that still looked very impressive.

Lukasz Fabianski – 6 – In fairness to Fabianski, there wasn’t much he could have done about either of the two Chelsea goals.  Other than those his evening was fairly quiet and he dealt with everything else reasonably well.

Nacho Monreal – 6 – Nacho made some promising runs at numerous points throughout the game and even had one of our better shots on goal.  He evidently wanted to prove a point to Wenger in an attempt to stay in the first team plans.

Laurent Koscielny – 6 – Strode out of defence confidently several times in the match to cut out the Chelsea play.  However, gave the ball away far too often and made too many errors.

Thomas Vermaelen – 5 – It’s going to take a while for Thomas to get back to the form we know he can deliver.  Tonight’s performance showed he can still put in a performance of sorts against a quality side, although similarly to Laurent, too many mistakes were made.

Carl Jenkinson – 3 – Unfortunately for Carl, he’ll be labelled the villain of the evening.  His mistake led to the first Chelsea goal and who knows how the game would have panned out if we had gone into the break level.  To me, it is becoming more and more obvious that Jenkinson can’t hack it at the top level.

Aaron Ramsey – 6 – Even Aaron looked fallible this evening and a lot of moves that have been coming off in recent weeks just weren’t happening for him.  A couple of dangerous moments but nothing to special from the Welshman this evening.

Jack Wilshere – 4 – I often here from people that Jack gives the ball away far too often.  Whilst I would usually rush to his defence I certainly cannot tonight.  He gave the ball away so often and apart from one mazy run into the box contributed very little.  I would even say that he was partially to blame for the opener as he and Jenkinson clearly had a communication breakdown.

Tomas Rosicky – 6 – Rosicky was one of the better players on the night but still had a relatively quiet game.  Didn’t run at Chelsea like we know he can do.

Santi Cazorla – 6 – Like Rosicky, Santi was one of the better players.  He consistently rode challenges and looked to make killer balls, a few of which came off.  He gets my man of the match solely for the lovely bit of skill to force a foul after completely embarrassing two Chelsea defenders.

Ryo Miyachi – 6 – Ryo really got stuck in tonight.  Really put himself about the pitch and got involved in the play.  He certainly had the best chance of the evening and very nearly put it away.  Still looked a bit weak on the ball but I feel this was a promising performance.

Nicklas Bendtner – 4 – It was said in the commentary that he got into some good positions and it may indeed be true that he didn’t really see enough of the ball.  However, it is hard to give more than a four to a player who barely touched the ball.

Ozil, Giroud and Park - It wouldn’t be fair to give these players ratings tonight given the insignificant part they played.  Ozil looked a bit dangerous at times after coming on though I really don’t think he should have risked him or Olivier.  Amazed to see Park in an Arsenal shirt again, and not in a good way.

Wenger said:

"Nothing is evident tonight because I felt we played quite well but we were not efficient enough especially defensively and it made it difference from then on. It was a tight game and they took advantage of our mistakes."
