Arsenal player ratings

So what seemed to be a special occasion for Arsene Wenger celebrating his 1000th game in change of Arsenal turned into a game of great humiliation.

Arsenal started the game pressing high with many pushing forward with the likes of Sagna and Gibbs both pushing up and as a result, left the defence in shambles going 2-0 down in the opening 7 minutes.

Soon it was 3-0 as Oxlade-Chamberlain handled in the box to concede a penalty with Gibbs getting the red card, which seemed harsh as he had nothing to do with the incident. Half time came and it was 4-0.

The second half started with substitutions for Arsenal. Arsenal tried to keep position and push forward when possible but the team was finding it tremendously difficult to make any impact on the game. Soon the score became 5-0 and not much later 6-0. Arsenal were falling apart with no convincing movement going forward and lacking any desire or passion.

Player Ratings

Wojciech Szczesny- 3 - Poor performance. Never really showed composure and confidence and as a result let in slightly poor goals.

Bacary Sagna- 4 - As a defence player, should have down better. He was often left up field leaving the back open and as a result saw Arsenal go down 2-0 very quickly.

Per Mertesacker-4 - Player never really featured. Was often left open with himself and another player having to defend resulting to Chelsea scoring. He never showered the captain spirit which has been expressed many times before.

Laurent Koscielny- 4 - Not the best performance and was left in the same situation as Mertesacker. Often left on his own having to backtrack a counter-attack which often resulted in the team conceding a goal.

Kieran Gibbs- 4 - A rating of 4 may seem harsh as the player was wrongfully sent off. But before he was sent off, the player added no value to the team looking very poor. Was often left up field not back-tracking quick enough leaving the team in shambles at the back.

Mikel Arteta- 4 - The player had a 93% pass accuracy but on the odd occasion lost the ball leaving Chelsea open to counter. As a holding mid-field player, he didn't have much of an impact as he only made 3 tackles. Not good enough in my opinion for a defensive, holding player.

Tomas Rosicky- 5 - Being the technical player that he is, I would of expected a little more. He only had a 78% pass accuracy with only 1 dribble won. He showed effort but unfortunately was not good enough.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain- 3 - Definitely not his best performance. For some reason felt he had to make a goal saving dive which resulted in a penalty and Gibbs getting sent off. Often tried to make dribbles but only completed 1. Definitely not his best or close to his best performance.

Santi Cazorla- 4 - Definitely not good enough. A player one would want to replace Ozil's technical ability clearly did not show or do enough. He had no tackles won in the game which clearly shows the player did not help in defence.

Lukas Podolski -  4 - Slightly poor performance. Although he went off to allow Vermaelen on for red carded Gibbs, the player had no feature in the game.

Olivier Giroud - 5 - Deserves a little more credit than some think. Had a goal scoring opportunity which saw it saved. But apart from

that, had no real chances to do much. With the team on the back foot and being down to 10men, Giroud had no real chance to have an impact.

Thomas Vermaelen- 5 - Come on as Gibbs was sent off and showed some good work. Was one of the better players on the Arsenal side of things which saw the defence better for a period of time.

Carl Jenkinson- 5 - Came on at half time which saw Sagna move to the left. Showed some fighting spirit and went up field well but couldn't help positively in the attacking side of things.

Mathieu Flamini - 5 - Came on at half time. Had a 88% pass accuracy and made one tackle. But as the team were always on the down side due to being left to 10men, he couldn't play the game he normally does.

A day that every Arsenal fan would have wanted to be a success was very quickly turned into a disaster. The team were left to 10men early in the first half and 4-0 down at the break. Soon the score become 5-0 and then 6-0.

Clearly a day that will stay in Arsene Wenger's mind for a very long time as he celebrated his 1000th game in charge, but sadly for all the wrong reasons.
