Arsenal player ratings

It came it the most nail-biting fashion, but Arsenal will play in the FA Cup Final, after a tense 4-2 penalty shoot-out win over Wigan.

Lukasz Fabianski - 8 – He did little wrong over the 120 minutes, and could do nothing with the Jordi Gomez penalty in normal time. He came up big for the Gunners in the shoot-out, saving two penalties.

Bacary Sagna – 7 – He was one of the few players to do himself justice. He was his reliable presence in defence, and put in a series of dangerous crosses from the right-hand side. He was also unlucky with a header that hit the post.

Per Mertesacker – 7 – It looked as if his concession of the penalty would be the decisive moment in the match. However, for most of the contest, he was a strong presence at the back, and it was “the BFG” who saved the game, scoring the equaliser with 8 minutes to go.

Thomas Vermaelen7 – He struggled early on, especially with the direct running of Callum McManaman. But the captain became more assured as the contest continued, managing to prevent Marc-Antoine Fortune causing problems.

Nacho Monreal – 6 – He found it tough going against McManaman, and allowed the   winger to bustle him off the ball in the lead up to the first goal. Had to leave the pitch with an injury.

Aaron Ramsey – 6 – He had some nice moments, but given his long term absence, the Welshman didn't always get up to the pace of the match. Was substituted in extra-time with a possible injury.

Mikel Arteta – 6 – The Spaniard saw plenty of the ball, but never got Arsenal's midfield going. He appears to be running on empty at the moment, although he took his penalty well in the shoot-out.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain –  7 – From the opening few minutes, Oxlade-Chamberlain looked in sprightly mood. He was Arsenal's most dangerous (and at times, only) attacking force. Even when he was suffering with cramp, he still managed a thunderous drive in extra-time that hit the crossbar.

Santi Cazorla – 6 – He was anonymous in the first-half. And while he was more influential in the second-half, he never managed to create a great deal. That will largely be forgotten as he kept his head to score the winning penalty with real aplomb.

Lukas Podolski – 6 –  For most of the match, Podolski was on the fringes of the match. His best period was just before half-time, but the feeling that his time at Arsenal is coming to a close cannot be avoided. The fans at Wembley were unhappy to see him substituted.

Yaya Sanogo – 6 – He impressed with his hold up play in the early exchanges, doing a good job of linking with the midfield. He was also unlucky with a header that was saved, and played a part in Mertesacker's goal. But ultimately, he remains far too undercooked for this level.

SUBS

Kieran Gibbs –  7 – Gave some much needed thrust on the left flank. Nearly scored in normal time.

Olivier Giroud – 6 – Added more ballast to the attack. Scored in the shoot-out

Kim Kallstrom – N/A – Scuffed one shot, but took his shoot-out penalty well.

This was a dreadful performance. To be honest, the last good display from the players was the FA Cup quarter-final against Everton. This doesn't bode well for the rest of the season, especially against West Ham on Tuesday. The only thing to celebrate is the result.

But given that the result puts us in an FA Cup Final, that's quite a lot to celebrate.
