Arsenal emerged victorious at the end of a nail biting match to get through to the FA cup final. In a game where Arsenal were hot favourites it seemed a struggle in a lacklustre match however, Arsenal are in the final and can compete for a trophy once again.
Nerves were expected before the game but when Mertesacker gave away the penalty which Gomez went onto score the nerves did kick in more than ever.
I was sat in my living room with the thought that Wenger’s reign may be over and another bad memory to live with, with this being Arsenals best chance of a trophy.
All this changed though when Mertesacker nodded in to make it 1-1. This meant so much that I jumped up, ran around the living room and managed to pull a muscle, which for the record I am in agony with.
Extra time is always a bit boring as players don’t know either to stick or twist. Arsenal nearly won this when Oxlade- chamberlain hit the crossbar with a thunderous shot.
As Michael Oliver the referee blew his whistle at full time it was time for a nail biting penalty shootout.
Penalty Shootout
Fabianski turned out to be the hero in this tremendous cup run. As Wigan’s centre back strolled up to take the first penalty I had a feeling he would miss and this instinct was correct as Fabianski saved to his right. Arteta then slotted home to make it 1-0.
Collison then had his penalty saved by Fabianski to his left. Then it was Kim Kallstrom turn to convert which was followed by Giroud and Cazorla’s penalties to ultimately win the shootout 4-2.
Jubilation
It was such a relief and my emotions was a joy to behold which meant another run around the living room while jumping around shouting “yes get in” with a tear in my eye knowing that this year could be the year.
This means so much to me and every Arsenal fan. All we can hope now is that we win the cup which will therefore mean we can end this barren run of no trophies and finally celebrate properly.
Fabianski deserves tremendous credit and has improved so much. The final could be Sagna’s and Fabianski’s last game for Arsenal Football Club.
