Arsenal gave chances to various players following the disastrous defeat to Southampton during the week, with Ospina, Bellerin and Campbell given the chance to shine. A weak Hull side would give some Arsenal players a chance to impress and get on the scoresheet.
Ospina- 6 - Very quiet day at the office for Ospina. Hull struggled to challenge the Arsenal goal but Ospina did well when called into action making a couple of routine saves.
Bellerin- 6 - Didn’t seem as confident today. Saw no pacey runs straight at the defence like we’ve seen before but had a good defensive display. Made 6 interceptions in the game along with 5 tackles made. Good showing for the young wing back.
Chambers-5- Quiet afternoon for Chambers . Won 4 duels in the air. Had a high pass rate (95%), albeit simple passes. Was under no real threat from the Hull attack.
Mertesacker- 6- Scored the goal for Arsenal to put them into the lead with a great header from a corner. Seemed a little more comfortable today in defence, albeit against a weak Hull side, making 6 clearances for the Gunners
Monreal- 5 - Let a few too many crosses come in on his side , however made a nice interception and 3 tackles made in the match to go alongside 5 clearances.
Coquelin- 4 - Disappointing performance from Coquelin. Missed passes and wreckless in defence, picking up a yellow and giving away a free kick in a dangerous spot. Not a day to remember for him.
Rosicky -6 - Good day for Rosicky today. Given a lot of room to run in midfield and created trouble for the Hull defence. Made a nice run in the second half but should have laid the ball off to Walcott. Nice link up play with Cazorla and Alexis. Most passes in the side with 69, always useful.
Cazorla-6 - Nice performance from Cazorla today. Pulled the strings in midfield in the first half. Struggled to find a gap in the second half but assisted in Alexis’ goal. 5 key passes highlights his contributions.
Alexis-7 - Once again Arsenal’s man of the match. Showed great energy and worked hard throughout the match. Could have scored a couple in the first half. Seemed a little frustrated in the second half and tried to force some passes. 6 shots on goal in total, scored a cracker of a goal.
Walcott- 5 - Good effort for his first start since last year. Made some nice runs in the second half and was a nuisance for the Hull defence. Lacked a little confidence. Should have scored in the second half.
Campbell- 5 - Not up to scratch if he wants to play Premier League football. Looked lively in the first half and made some nice runs but wasteful in front of goal missing two clear chances in the second half.
Subs
Oxlade-Chamberlain- 5 - Made a definite impact when he came on. Made a great run to set up a clear chance for Alexis. Also made a good block on the right side of defence.
Chupa Akpom -N/A - Had a couple of touches but no real input to the game.
Maitland-Niles -N/A - Came on late and had no impact on the game.
Overall a disappointing performance from the Gunners.
Alexis was the bright spark in the team however the poor display for most of the second half leaves much to the imagination. This performance would not threaten the likes of Chelsea or Manchester City as it was a struggle to turn over a sub-par Hull side.
However it was enough for a fourth-round tie and a good result following Southampton defeat.
