Arsenal are comfortably through to the 4th round of the FA cup after beating an average Hull side 2-0. Hull who made 10 changes never really troubled Arsenal with Ospina only making one save in the game which was comfortable. The match saw Walcott, Bellerin and Campbell all given chances to impress.

Arsenal scored from a corner in the 20th minute when Per Mertesacker headed in after being given too much room. Arsenal then had chances in quick succession but none were taken. The second half had become quiet and Arsenal lost their rhythm however, Arsenal were never really troubled as a lot of the Hull attacks were played in front of the defence.

However, in the final 10 minutes Alexis Sanchez made sure we are through with a neat turn on the edge of the area before placing the ball in the bottom right corner. Sanchez was brilliant once again with his work rate and movement but was complemented by the returning Walcott and Campbell.

Walcott looked good in patches of the game but was reluctant to run at defenders which may have been down to a lack of match sharpness which showed when he snatched at a couple of chances. Campbell who had a shot well saved in the first 5 minutes offered glimpses of quality but was fairly quiet. However, Keown who was commentating for the BBC remarked how Campbell was an improved player since he saw him at the world cup which he put down to the work of Wenger. This may also be the reason which first team chances have been limited in the first 5 months of the season.

At the final whistle Wenger seemed to be happy with the win and had the following to say;

"We missed some chances, but we needed to be patient and do the job in a professional way. If we could stop Hull scoring, you could see the second goal would come. It came late but we dealt with the situation."

Further to this, Sanchez was offered a rest before the game but refused as he wanted to play in the cup which shows the type of player Alexis is. When pressed on this Wenger responded;

“Alexis Sanchez always gives you an incisive game and forces defenders into mistake. He is a dream for a manager. He always wants to play and that is what you want to see."

Wenger also gave his thoughts on Walcott’s comeback remarking about the good runs Walcott made but was quick to point out that after a year out it may take a while for Walcott to return to his best.

Overall, a pleasing victory which keeps Arsenal in the hat and potential retain this wonderful trophy.
