Arsenal was deserving losers on Saturday afternoon but could have rescued a point if Cazorla had not missed a penalty when he slipped.  From the start Arsenal were poor and sloppy which was added to with a low tempo. Things then got worst when Coquelin had to go off injured.  However, Arsenal then took the lead through a Giroud header but was pegged back by West Brom after poor defending from a free kick. The winner then was scored through an Arteta own goal.

Cech – 6 – Didn’t have much to do and wasn’t at fault for any of the goals.

Bellerin – 6 – Not the greatest game by the young right back but tried to make a difference in the final third.

Mertesacker - 6 – Looked poor throughout and gave the ball away from a free kick which nearly cost Arsenal, constantly beaten in the air.

Koscielny – 7 – Not at fault for the goals and defended okay looking his usual solid self. A good performance considering the recent events in France.

Monreal – 7 – Monreal had a good game and delivered a couple of good crosses.

Coquelin – N/A – Got injured

Cazorla – 5 -  A poor performance by Cazorla and could be accused of taking too many touches all of the time which slowed the game. Missed a crucial penalty but to be fair to him he did slip.

Sanchez – 7 – Sanchez was one of Arsenal’s better players and constantly tried to make things happen. Won the penalty which was subsequently missed.

Ӧzil – 7 - Arsenal’s best player alongside Sanchez and got another assist.

Gibbs  - 6 – Looked a threat at times in the final third but showed he is not a natural in that position.

Giroud – 6 – Scored the Arsenal goal but didn’t really create a lot for himself.

Subs

Arteta  - 5 – A poor display by the Arsenal captain and definitely showed a lack of match fitness. He was at fault for the equaliser and then scored the own goal. If the goal hadn’t got in he would have probably conceded a penalty and been sent off for deliberate handball. To conclude he then picked up a calf strain.

Flamini - 6 – Kept the ball well and would have had a chance if Evans had not intercepted.

Campbell – 6 – Missed a sitter after just coming on.

Overall, it was poor from the outset and probably didn’t deserve to win. Arsenal now have a crucial game in midweek against Zagreb and then must bounce back in the league.
