It was the best of performances, it was the worst of performances. What a strange game that was. Arsenal were brilliant to start with but then just seemed to fall asleep as the game went on.
It could've ended badly. Wolves could have made it 2-1 and started off and unlikely comeback, but they didn't. And we should be thankful for that. In the end, the defense did just enough and Szczesny was there when we needed him and all that matters now is that we're five clear of Spurs and Newcastle, and seven of Chelsea. We never got out of second gear, but we didn't really need to.
Wojciech Szczesny - 8 - That really was a great display from our beloved Polish goalkeeper. He didn't have too much to do but was brilliant when he did.
He collected quite a few potentially dangerous crosses and pulled off a magnificent save from Kevin Doyle's header, the turning point of the game for me. Prevented Wolves from making it 2-1 and that allowed Arsenal to go 3-0 up shortly after. Also made a great save from a very late Jarvis strike, earning him a well deserved fourth clean sheet in five.
Bacary Sagna - 7 - Another consistent performance from our right back. Didn't allow Matt Jarvis too much room, which most right backs in the league have found hard to do. Won a couple of crucial headers in the box and put in a good attacking display as well.
Johan Djourou - 7 - He did much better than I thought he would. The Swiss really has been in strange form for us. Either he's solid or pathetically poor. Thankfully, he was solid today against the likes of Kevin Doyle. He kept him quite, produced a few blocks, and made some determined headers. A solid display earns him a 7.
Thomas Vermaelen - 8 - Vermaelen was a bit more involved in the game than Djourou and seemed to make a good decision every time he was forced to make a decision. There were a few occasions he had to beat Kightly, Zubar, and Doyle on the chase and he did so.
There were a few occasions where he had to run back towards his own goal and get rid of the ball and managed to do that too. Overall, he kept the Wolves forwards relatively quiet, and put in a determined defensive display.
André Santos - 5 - Not the best of performances from the Brazilian. Every time Wolves got the ball in our half, it seemed to be from a misplaced pass by him or his refusal to chase the ball.
I'm a big fan of Santos, but he just seemed a bit lazy today. On his day, he can be a solid defender and a brilliant attacker, but today, he was disappointingly neither.
Alex Song - 7 - A decent display from Song today. I do think sometimes he pushes up too much. He probably should leave the final balls in the tight areas to the likes of Ramsey and Arteta and defend more, but today he had a good balance between the two. Did get forward on occasions but he seemed to always be back when we needed him most.
Also won a few crucial headers from corners, which are always hard to defend against the likes of Doyle, Berra, and Stearman.
Mikel Arteta - 8 - Just as he was at the weekend, Mikel Arteta was brilliant against Wolves today. He really knows how to run the game and is an amazing all-around midfielder. For the first time since he has signed for us, we are beginning to see the Arteta that had teams cringing in fear during his time at Everton. Yes, he has been a great passer all season. But now, he just seems to control everything. Every attack goes through him, he helps out defensively, and makes determined forward runs. My only regret from him today is his (and the whole team's) being a bit slow after going 2-0 up early.
Aaron Ramsey - 6 - The Welsh captain was wasteful once again today. He did play better than he has recently, probably because he finally played in his preferred central position, but he wasn't great. Together with the rest of the team, he was a bit slow in attack after going 2-0 up.
Does deserve some credit for his hard work and defensive determination. I do believe that if he gets a run of games, the goals will come. Fabregas was very wasteful early in his career as well, and look at him now.
Don't forget it's Ramsey's first full season, and I'm sure he has a great future in this club if he keeps up the work rate.
Yossi Benayoun - 8 - Speaking of work rate, well that should be this guy's middle name. What a brilliant display from the Israeli international today. He was just everywhere and was full of spirit.
It's great to see someone who has been so frustrated by a lack of games play so well when he finally gets a chance. And he deserves more of them. He was the best player on the pitch today, and seemed to want to keep attacking even when Arsenal were at their poorest.
He started the games against Spurs, Liverpool, Manchester City, and today against Wolves, and we won all of them.
Determination is inspiring, especially from someone who is a loanee, and doesn't have to try his absolute hardest. What a well taken goal by him as well. I hope to see him in Arsenal colours come next season.
Theo Walcott - 7 - It's very hard to give Theo a rating after such a strange performance. He was rampant for ten minutes, but then just disappeared. He won the early penalty and converted one of his own a couple of minutes later, but after those ten minutes, he just seemed to give the ball away every time he had it.
If I base his rating on how long he was involved in the game for, comparing his time being brilliant to his time being poor, he deserves a very low score. If I base his rating on how much influence he has on the final score, he deserves a very high score.
Therefore, a 7 seems a fair score for a mercurial performance from the English winger.
Robin van Persie - 7 - Our Dutch captain "finally" ended his very short goal drought with a brilliantly taken penalty. Robin produced a beautiful chip over Hennesey from the spot to rub salt in the wounds of Wolves early on.
After that, he was lively and dropped deep to get involved in the game. But he did waste a couple of chances, which was a bit disappointing.
Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain - 7 - We barely got to see the magnificent eighteen year-old today, but he was very good when he came on. He was very direct and produced a couple of scary moments for the Wolves defense that the rest of the Arsenal team didn't seem too keen to pounce on.
Overall, he did relatively well during his short time on the pitch.
Carl Jenkinson - 6 - Jenkinson got even less time on the pitch than his fellow summer signing. Therefore, he didn't have much to do. He did produce a good slide tackle on Ward to stop a potentially dangerous counter attack from Wolves, though.
