The Gunners have been encouraged with the news that Sporting Lisbon would be willing to accept a reasonable offer for defensive midfielder William Carvalho.

Following Arsenal’s first pre-season game of the season, it is looking as though Arsenal are set to make their third signing of the summer, Nice goalkeeper David Ospina.

The Colombian international played all of his country’s games during this summer’s World Cup, keeping two clean sheets on the side’s road to the quarter-finals.

French website NiceMatin.com believe that the announcement of Ospina’s arrival will be imminent, the clubs agreeing a fee of approximately €4 million, due to his contract expiration next year.

Doubts have been raised over the legitimacy of Arsenal’s interest in Italian striker Mario Balotelli, after his club maintained that they had not entered any negotiations for their star man.

Balotelli, who moved to AC Milan from Manchester City in 2013, is reportedly looking for a move away from his boyhood dream club, despite his 26 goals in one year at the San Siro.

Fuelling Speculation

Rumours emerged yesterday that Arsenal had been given the go-ahead over a deal worth £15.8 million to add Balotelli to their squad for next season.

Arsenal have reportedly opened negotiations with Sporting Lisbon’s World Cup star William Carvalho, as Arsène Wenger sets his sights on a new defensive midfielder.

Subject to heavy negotiations

According to an exclusive piece by Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, William Carvalho has been subject to a €30 million (£25 million) bid from the Gunners, as the North London side look to snatch his signature from rivals Manchester United.

The club have been aware for a long time that they are in urgent need of a defensively focused midfielder, after deciding that the aging Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta will be fighting for their futures in the upcoming months.
