FC Porto and Colombia forward Jackson Martinez has revealed that he would be unable to turn down the opportunity to play for Arsenal if the North London side came knocking.

The 27-year-old has 14 goals from 20 appearances this season, including 2 goals in the Champions League despite Porto crashing out at the group stages, and is almost a certainty to be on the plane to Brazil with his country.

He has mentioned before that he was a fan of Arsenal and Chelsea growing up, but recent interviews have shown his clear preference for the Gunners.

The 3rd round of the FA Cup is upon us and it isn’t a tie versus Swansea City or Leeds United this time, it is Tottenham Hotspur, our north London rivals, who we must get past.

As we have said numerous times this season, and it is fantastic, we come into this clash in excellent form. We have won our last three matches and will be looking to get another home win here.

We might have given Spurs a thrashing a few weeks ago but they have made changes recently and have Tim Sherwood, an apparent Arsenal fan, in charge. He has picked up some good results so this should be a tight derby match.

It isn’t great. We can’t hide that. Arsene Wenger hasn’t hid it either as he has been talking about Nicklas Bendtner, Olivier Giroud, Mesut Ozil amongst others.

It’s 2005, and Arsene Wenger has just won his most recent in a catalogue of trophies for The Gunners, the FA Cup. After winning it for the fourth time, Wenger can’t truly have believed that the quest to repeat this feat would have taken such a long and unrelenting road. This year, as we open the competition against our staunchest of rivals, he has the chance to spark this love affair once more.

Wenger started his tenor at Arsenal by become champions of one of the world’s oldest tournaments in the world. The success he tasted seemed to ignite an unduly romance with the Cup, becoming champions three more times in the next seven years, and only once failing to reach at least the semi-final.

So why, for a team like Arsenal, who have a huge history in the competition, have we failed  to muster up a significant cup run in eight trophy-less years at the club?

Whether Arsenal sign a striker or not hinges on the fitness of Nicklas Bendtner after the Danish striker suffered an injury when scoring the crucial opener against Cardiff on New Years Day.

That is the thought of Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger who was speaking at his pre-match press conference today.

Injury situation the key

He also discussed rumours linking Dimitar Berbatov with the club but wasn’t asked about Diego Costa, the Atletico Madrid forward who the Gunners are apparently lining up a £32 million bid for.

When asked about Berbatov, Wenger said:

With just one loss in the last 8 and the latest 1-0 win against Newcastle putting Arsenal top of the table going into 2014, the Gunners will be firm favourites despite the depleted squad against a Cardiff side without a win in 3.

The Bluebirds – who play in red, of course – have become the laughing stock of the Premier League thanks to their nearly insane owner, Vincent Tan. The Malaysian businessman sacked manager Malky Mackay last week following his “resign or be sacked” ultimatum, leading to huge protests from the Cardiff supporters.

Cardiff’s run has been pretty awful on the pitch. With just 1 win in their last 9, they sit an uncomfortable 16th in the League.

Arsenal have been irresistible as usual, with the midfield clicking like a dream and just 1 goal conceded in the last 3.
