Arsenal have become the favourites to sign Liverpool’s star man Luis Suarez after Real Madrid valued their target at just £25million.

Madrid’s valuation is a non-starter after Liverpool already rejected a £30million bid plus £5million in variables from Arsenal, with offers nearer £40million likely to test the Reds’ resolve.

Wannabe Galactico?

Suarez looks to have his sights set on a move abroad after he made comments condoning the intrusive nature of the British media:

"Ever since I arrived I have felt bad, they [the media] have never judged me for my play but with the attitude that he dives, protests, makes gestures, racism … everything."

And Suarez went on to make his intentions crystal clear as he praised the world famous Galacticos:

"Any player would like to play for a great team and Real Madrid certainly are that. Every player wants to reach the very top and Real Madrid are at the very top, but everything that has been said is just rumours, I have had nothing concrete."

Put your money where your mouth is…

A move abroad would be Suarez’s preference, then. But with the moneybags Spanish giants only valuing one of the Premier League’s most prolific and skilful players at £25million, their intention to steal the Liverpool number 7 does not look desperate.

Considering the Madrid president openly said he would be willing to spend up to £100million on Tottenham’s Gareth Bale, there is no doubting Madrid could have Suarez if they wanted him.

And this is where Arsenal come in, they have the funds to snatch Suarez for around £40million and a club willing and eager to sign the player would stake our intent in grabbing his signature. Although Liverpool have maintained that they would listen to larger offers, they do not have to sell the striker if they wish to keep him – as the 26-year-old remains under contract.

With options narrowing with Chelsea’s pursuit of Wayne Rooney and Napoli’s approach of Gonzalo Higuain, reaping the rewards of Edinson Cavani’s £55million move to PSG, Suarez looks like Arsenal’s possible marquee signing for the summer.

...replying to my own post, it occurs to me that the media could never sell a Bale for 10 million rumour - Wenger would never spend that much.

I'll believe we have signed Suarez/Higuain/Cesc/ Fellaini/Ashley Williams/Rooney/Mess i/Ronaldo/Pele/Billi e Wright/whomever else, when I see it. More media BS. Here's one for the media - why not start the rumour that this is cunning plan by Wenger to distract everyone while he quietly signs Bale for 10 million.

Quoting Tom P:
"FSG have valued Suarez at 42 million pounds for transfer abroad, 45 million pounds to a top three club in England and 50 million for Arsenal or anyone else in the Premier League."

Brilliant - can you confirm how you have made these numbers up?

Not brilliant, just common knowledge in Liverpool, believe it or don't

Liverpool would prefer to transfer Suarez abroad, but any team in the current top three of EPL is preferable to either of the North London teams of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur for obvious reasons.

FSG have valued Suarez at 42 million pounds for transfer abroad, 45 million pounds to a top three club in England and 50 million for Arsenal or anyone else in the Premier League.

Of course Arsenal could match the valuation, that's up to Arsenal if they are willing to go that high with a transfer bid, but they will have to if they want any chance of signing the player because Liverpool are not going to budge from those values, even if it means keeping an unhappy player.

And accepting Liverpool's weaker position in relation to league position and players, FSG do not want to actively strengthen the teams that they want Liverpool to be competing with for Champions League qualification.
