Arsenal have made Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain their top target for the summer, as part of a big spending initiative.

Arsenal plan to recruit a new player for every central position to improve the spine of their side and have identified the Argentinian as a realistic but ambitious target to improve their attack.

Options

Arsenal have scouted, among others, Stevan Jovetic, Wayne Rooney and even Higuain’s Madrid team-mate Karim Benzema as potential striking targets, but feel Higuain is the best and most realistic option, in terms of instant impact and price.

Far from it being a fleeting winter fancy, Arsenal are fully prepared to sign David Villa in the upcoming transfer window, with their Champions League qualification giving them an advantage over rivals Spurs.

Bid

Barcelona insider/mouthpiece Guillem Balague has confirmed Arsenal have bid around £10m for the Spanish striker, and a deal could be completed very soon.

Barcelona are prepared to let him go now, with the expectation being that they’ll sign a new striker (possibly Neymar) in the summer.

Arsenal have been linked with a number of keepers recently, but one of the stronger links was to Hamburg’s Rene Adler. The German shot-stopper has tried to dismiss speculation linking him to Arsenal however, insisting he has ‘never thought’ of leaving:

“I am under contract at Hamburg, this is a fact. I can say that since I have arrived, I have never thought of, or considered, leaving the team.”

He says this only a month after saying this:

“For any player it is an honour to be linked with Arsenal. It is something that inspires me even more, and it is not distracting me.”

If you’ve been anywhere the internet today, you’ll likely be aware that Arsenal are set to sign French striker Yaya Sanogo in the summer, on a free transfer.  The 20-year old has been a standout for Ligue 2 side Auxerre this season, scoring 8 goals in 7 appearances. His services have been prized around Europe by many sides.

Profile

You can be forgiven for not knowing much about Sanogo, so here’s the lowdown:

With Manchester United chasing Cesc Fabregas, Arsenal have a little bit of a problem. The champions want to sign him this summer as a replacement for the outgoing Paul Scholes, but Barcelona are unwilling to sell him.

However, if they were eventually convinced to let him go, Arsenal would be given first option to buy him, for £30m. The question is if Arsene Wenger wants Fabregas back enough to pay that kind of money to keep United from getting him.

Resounding

We ran a poll recently, to see if Arsenal fans wanted Fabregas back or not. The answer was a massive YES, with 84.8% of voters saying they’d welcome the Spaniard back to the Emirates, with 11.6% saying no, and 3.6% not being sure.
