Swansea City have slapped a £25million price tag on Arsenal target Michu.

Arsene Wenger is now desperate to make a signing after the Gunners’ opening day defeat at home to Aston Villa, which was marred by boos and jeers directed at the Frenchman.

Signs reading “spend spend spend” were held up around the ground as not a penny has left the Emirates in transfer fees throughout the summer.

Fans’ tension boiled over as a signingless squad now depleted by countless injuries to key players conceded 3 goals against a resurgent Villa. Olivier Giroud’s 4th minute opener looked to get us off on the right foot only for 2 controversial penalty decisions, and one of the worst cases of defending the League has ever seen allowing the Villa left-back in to score a 3rd.

Simply Sanogo

Wenger’s biggest attempt at “spend spend spend” so far this summer has been the attempted transfer of Luis Suarez from Liverpool. However with Suarez appearing happy and smiling at Anfield, where he received a huge ovation from the Reds’ following, the deal looks to be well and truly dead.

The saga has taken up most of the summer window, with figures between £40 and £55million banded around.

After recently failing to dish out an extra £3million for Luis Gustavo, who later joined Wolfsburg (11th in the Bundesliga), the need to add depth to the paper thin squad has never been greater.

Nice to Michu, come to Arsenal?

Michu, playing only his second season in the Premiership, impressed in a well fought battle against Manchester United on Saturday. Although the scoreline finished convincingly 4-1 to United, Swansea battled excellently with Michu showing the diversity to play as a lone striker and attacking midfielder at different stages.

The Spaniard finished 5th in the Premier League top goalscorers in his debut season last year, after Swansea brought him in from La Liga at an astonishing £2million.

The Swans are unlikely to let him go easily, with the bar set at around £25million for the attacker. Plus, with Wenger stuttering over an extra £3million for Gustavo, arguably a player we needed more, it is hard to foresee the boss forking out the hefty asking price.

However fans’ reaction at the Emirates on Saturday is bound to be fresh in Wenger’s mind.

Time to spend.
