Then long wait for another transfer announcement goes on and on.
Over the road, Spurs are signing every player in existence yet at the Emirates Arsene Wenger is holding off announcing the transfer of Mathieu Flamini despite the deal being done.
The announcement is on hold until Wenger makes a big name signing, as we reported not long ago. However if that big name signing is never going to come then do we cancel the deal for Flamini?
You could be waiting a while, Mathieu…
Summer which promised so much in the way of spending money – with names like Rooney, Suarez and Fabregas now embarrassing to the Arsenal faithful.
As we become the subject of ridicule, the Board and staff continue to twiddle their thumbs rather than get deals done.
Envy the Spuds
I hate to use Spurs as an example, but their attitude towards transfers is enviable.
Having lost their “star player” and going from ‘one man team’ to ‘no man team’, they have scraped together the money they have and bought an entire team of stars this summer. With the North London Derby this Sunday, we have reason to be scared as our depleted midfield faces one that has only strengthened.
The Flamini deal should be announced by now, marquee signing or not. He is a utility man whom we need to fill in midfield and at fullback, and even though yet another free transfer could be seen as a step backwards, he is simply another body to add depth to our squad.
With di Maria staying in Madrid or moving to Turkey and the Suarez deal six feet under, our two best hopes of a big signing are now gone. The famed frugality has left our squad paper thin and with only us to pay for it.
Sitting on a bed of £180million, Arsenal are still yet to announce the free transfer of Mathieu Flamini, and I hope – for their sake – that they spend some money soon.
