After being linked with Schalke playmaker Julian Draxler earlier in the transfer window, it now appears that the German could be back on Arsenal’s radar.
The German international has announced that he might be prepared to leave Schalke if the German side are prepared to sell.
However, while there is still interest being shown in Draxler, he does not seem to be a first choice target, as Arsenal look to tie up other deals first.
£34 million buy-out clause
The German international who only recently signed a new deal with Schalke has a £34 million buy-out clause in his contract, and so the German side have insisted he will not be sold for less than that.
However, in true Wenger fashion the Frenchman is only thought to be willing to offer £25 million for the German, which would make him the clubs record signing. Though the fact Arsenal are only willing to pay less than his buy-out clause suggests that he is not a primary target.
Other targets
While the club has shown interest in Draxler, it is believed that Wenger is instead hoping to make a sensational move for Real Madrid German international Mesut Ozil.
Along with Ozil, it is thought that Wenger will try to make moves for his team-mate Angel Di Maria and Chelsea’s Demba Ba, along with Palermo’s Abel Hernandez and Emiliano Viviano.
Arsenal are facing competition from Manchester United for Ozil, and if the club could pull off a deal for him then it would be an amazing signing for the club, signalling the intent of moving in the right direction.
However, if the move for Ozil should fall through, Arsenal fans should expect a more serious offer from the club to sign Schalke’s young star Julian Draxler.
